• It is not possible to use the FollowMe Tandem if the child’s bike has training wheels. These should be removed or at least turned up. Side wheels keep the children’s bike from leaning into a corner. The adult bicycle still does this, which can create a dangerous situation.
  • We do not recommend using training wheels when learning to ride a bicycle. Training wheels do not help children learn to balance, steer, start, stop or turn properly. Instead, they teach the wrong way to turn, as children shift their weight outward instead of inward. In addition, training wheels can pose safety risks if they get caught behind a curb or in a pothole, causing the bike to tip over. They can also cause the bicycle to roll backward, which can cause dangerous situations.
  • Instead, we recommend starting with a balance bike at an early age before switching to a children’s bike with pedals. With a balance bike, children learn to balance, steer and coordinate naturally, which makes the transition to a regular bike smoother and more confident.
